Ninth CAREC Federation of Carrier and Forwarder Associations Annual Meeting
CAREC Federation of Carrier and Forwarders Associations (CFCFA) Chairperson Capt. Lin Zhong updated the members of the organizations’ progress and achievement since their previous meeting. To pursue its mandate of adoption of international best practices, Zhong also updated members of the progress on the development of the CFCFA recommended standards in the implementation and documentation for business management of carriers, transport equipment, contracting carriers, and freight forwarders in cross-border logistics (transit) and transport.
The members deliberated on various topics related to the operations and initiatives of CFCFA including the revitalization of the CFCFA website, expansion of membership to enterprise members, development and pilot of transit corridors routes, their contribution to the CAREC Corridors Performance Measurement and Monitoring (or CPMM) project, and skills enhancement by creating partnerships with technical and vocational institutions.
One session during the meeting was dedicated to strengthening the role of the private sector in the CAREC Integrated Trade Agenda 2030 and its potential participation in the roster of activities of the Rolling Strategic Action Plan 2018-2020.
To further strengthen their collaboration with the customs administrations of CAREC member countries, members deliberated on issues the CFCFA plan to address in their dialogue with the CAREC Customs Cooperation Committee on 6 September 2018.
CFCFA members also elected new board members to continue the efforts and initiatives of the federation. An executive board meeting immediately followed after the proceedings. The meeting was chaired by the Ying Qian, director, Public Management, Financial Sector and Regional Cooperation Division, ADB East Asia Department and Bekmyrat Eyeberdiev, president, Turkmen Association Of International Road Carriers (THADA).
On 5 September, a site visit was arranged for the CFCFA members including a visit to the International Passenger Transport Terminal of the Ministry of Road Transport of Turkmenistan.
