First CAREC Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regional Working Group Meeting
Representatives from 11 CAREC Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) national working groups and trade-related agencies and development partners—including the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), United States Agency for International Development-Competitiveness, Trade and Jobs Project, European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization, CAREC Institute, UNDP Aid for Trade Project and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)—participated at the meeting.
Ibrokhim Ergashev, head of the State Plant Quarantine and Inspection under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan and Khurshid Rakhmanov, deputy head, Department of Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation Measures of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan co-delivered the welcome remarks.
Ying Qian, director, Public Management, Financial Sector and Regional Cooperation Division, East Asia Department (EARD), Asian Development Bank (ADB) co-chaired the sessions.
EARD Deputy Director General M. Teresa Kho launched the new publication titled Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures in CAREC: An Assessment and the Way Forward. The EAPF team released an Asian Development Blog article to disseminate the publication.
The meeting was supported by KSTA 9500: Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade, co-funded by the Regional Cooperation and Integration Fund and People’s Republic of China (PRC) Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation Fund.
