Regional Power Transmission Interconnection Project (Tajikistan Component) The project will enhance transmission interconnectivity in the power sector between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. It will increase power export and income generation capacity of Tajikistan, and restore power supply and reduce costs for consumers in Afghanistan.
Capacity Building for Clean Development Mechanism Taking into account the potential of Uzbekistan’s provinces in implementation of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects as well as incentives of regional partners in further training, the project has planned to conduct a series of training workshops in Fergana valley, Bukhara, and Nukus.
CAREC Members Electricity Regulators Forum (CMERF) The CAREC Regulators Forum supports regional cooperation and integration in the energy sector under CAREC through improved regulation of the energy sector. The forum promotes efficient production and use of energy domestically, and is crucial for supporting the development of electricity trade in the CAREC region.
Preparing the Central Asia–South Asia Regional Electricity Market Project The project preparatory technical assistance (TA) will assess the economic and technical feasibility of electricity trade between Central Asia and South Asian countries through an initial project to export 100MW from Tajikistan/Kyrgyz Republic to Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Establishment of the CAREC Members Electricity Regulators Forum The goal of the technical assistance (TA) is the promotion of regional trade and cooperation, private sector investment, and infrastructure development in the energy sectors in East and Central Asia by advancing regulation of the electricity sector in a harmonized fashion.
North–South Electricity Transmission Project The project will ensure business enterprises and households in southern Kazakhstan access to reliable, cost effective, and high-quality supply of electricity.
KEGOC: Ekibastuz–YukGres Power Transmission The project will promote competition and trade both on national and regional levels by facilitating low-cost producers in North Kazakhstan to supply South Kazakhstan and the Central Asia integrated system.
Power Rehabilitation, Phase II The project preparatory technical assistance (TA) will prepare the ensuing investment project, which aims to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing facilities in southern Tajikistan, covering generation, transmission, and distribution.
Power Transmission and Distribution Project The project will improve power supply in the northern, southern, and eastern areas of Afghanistan by rehabilitating and extending power transmission and distribution systems.

Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) Natural Gas Pipeline Project, Phase II This technical assistance (TA) was primarily a follow-up on the recommendations of the risk analysis and risk mitigation study under the Phase 1 TA and was designed as an integral part of the preparation for development of a natural gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to off-take points in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.
KEGOC: North–South Power Transmission The project covers construction of 270-kilometer YukGres-Shu first section of the new North-South 500-kilovolt electricity transmission line.

Energy Needs Assessment The Government of Uzbekistan requested technical assistance from Asian Development Bank to develop the first stage of its energy-saving program.
Feasibility Studies of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan Natural Gas Pipeline Project A steering committee of the ministers of oil and gas from the three countries was established for necessary follow-up and supervision of the project. The Steering Committee requested the Asian Development Bank to play the role of a development partner and provide regional technical assistance for feasibility studies.
Hydropower Development Strategy The technical TA helped the Government of Tajikistan to prepare a hydropower development strategy. The strategy identified for the Tajikistan energy sector the optimal energy development program that will meet domestic energy requirements and realized export opportunities given the energy resources available, existing power investments, and fiscal and other constraints.
Preparing the Regional Gas Transmission Improvement Project in the Central Asia Republics The TA was to formulate a regional project suitable for ADB financing to improve the gas transmission network in the Central Asia Republics (CARs) to facilitate access to modern energy by the rural poor, regional major cities, and commercial centers.
