Assessing Economic Corridor Development Potential Among Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan

The proposed knowledge and support technical assistance will support the assessment of economic corridor development potential among Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, with focus on geographically connected major cities and oblasts.

CAREC Corridors 1 and 3 Connector Road Project (Phase 2), Additional Financing

The proposed project will connect two major CAREC regional corridors by rehabilitating a crucial connector road, part of the North-South Alternate Corridor, which is a priority in the National Sustainable Development Strategy. It will (i) improve connectivity and mobility, and (ii) link economically underprivileged regions with economic hubs.

Support to the Advisory Group on Railway Sector Development

As part of the Afghanistan National Railway Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan wishes to expedite the construction of the Mazar-i-Sharif to Herat railway line (the MHR), which would connect with the existing Mazar-i-Shari to Hairatan railway line, and the Herat to Senghan line being constructed in phases, to form a continuous transit route between Central Asia and the Middle East/South Asia through Afghanistan.

Preparing the CAREC Corridors 1 and 3 Bishkek Northern Bypass Road Project

This road improvement will contribute to regional cooperation through (i) linking the CAREC Corridors 1 and 3; (ii) providing global connectivity to the Bishkek FEZ and Dordoy Bazaar; and (iii) linking ABEC with Bishkek-Osh Road and Bishkek-Torugart Road.

East–West Highway (Khevi–Ubisa Section) Improvement Project

The proposed project will improve the Khevi–Ubisa section and improve operations and maintenance of the road network, as well as road safety

CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project, Phase 4

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will assess the condition of the structures likely to be affected by construction of the Bishkek–Kara–Balta section of the project road under the CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project.

Floating Solar Energy Development

The proposed knowledge and support technical assistance aims to pilot test and build expertise on the emerging floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) technology to diversify the energy mix, increase energy security, and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Preparing the North-South Corridor (Kvesheti–Kobi) Road Project

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will help the Government of Georgia prepare the proposed ensuing North-South Corridor (Kvesheti–Kobi) Road Project.

Implementing the CAREC 2030 Strategy for Sustainable Regional Development

The regional knowledge and support technical assistance will support the implementation of the CAREC 2030 strategy to enhance CAREC's role as a regional cooperation platform to connect people, policies, and projects for shared and sustainable development.

Aid for Trade

Through the Aid for Trade project, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works with governments in Central Asia to develop better policies that in turn help the private sector create jobs, so that people can better support themselves. The project covers three countries in Central Asia: the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Preparing the CAREC Corridors 2, 3, and 5 (Obigarm–Nurobod) Road Project

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will help the Government of Georgia prepare the proposed ensuing CAREC Corridors 2, 3, and 5 (Obigarm–Nurobod) Road Project.

Preparing the CAREC 2, 3, and 6 (Turkmenabat–Mary–Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi) Railway Modernization Projects

The Government of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Railway Transport have requested assistance from the Asian Development Bank for a program to modernize railways in Turkmenistan. The transaction technical assistance facility will provide project preparation support and capacity building to these ensuing projects.

CAREC Corridors 2, 5, and 6 (Dushanbe–Kurgonteppa) Road Project, Additional Financing

The overall project will improve the connectivity between the capital Dushanbe and Kurgonteppa, which are two major cities and economic hubs in Tajikistan, and enhance the safety of the national highway network.

Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade

The technical assistance will support the CAREC Common Agenda for the Modernization of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures for Trade by (i) creating national bodies in each country and a regional body to lead the modernization process; (ii) developing regulations, procedures, and requirements that are aligned with international standards; and (iii) improving the capability of border agencies to implement these measures at selected common borders.

Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade

Green Energy Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Development Project

The technical assistance will identify, support, and promote scalable, private sector-led business models for provision of affordable and sustainable energy products and services for Tajikistan’s rural population.

Energy Efficiency Facility for Industrial Enterprises, Phase 3

Phase 3 of the project will continue to finance energy-saving investments in both large industrial enterprises and industrial SMEs, and support energy efficiency capacity development through targeted technical assistance.

District Heating Energy Efficiency Project

The project development objective is to improve the efficiency and quality of heating and hot water services in selected cities within the territory of Uzbekistan.

Energy Access SMEs Development Project

The project aims to scale up private sector engagement in energy access by improving the risk-return profile of private investment in energy access products and services.

Almaty–Bishkek Economic Corridor Support

The proposed regional knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) will support the implementation of the pilot cross-border economic corridor around Almaty and Bishkek within the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program.
