Rail Trade and Transport Facilitation AF

The main project objective is to improve railway services in Azerbaijan, as well as the competitiveness, financial sustainability, operating and cost efficiency, and capacity of ADDY in particular along the transport corridor toward Georgia (east-west corridor).

Reconstruction of Osh-Batken-Isfana Road Project

The project will contribute to the reduction of transport costs and travel time along the Osh-Batken-Isfana road corridor, improve road safety planning, and repair and rehabilitate road infrastructure in and around Osh and Jalal Abad cities thereby creating temporary jobs.

Promoting Cooperation in Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures for CAREC

This technical assistance will support the implementation of a dedicated sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures program for CAREC to help expand trade and enhance the competitiveness of growers and producers of goods and commodities subject to SPS measures.

Preparing the CAREC Corridors 3 and 5 Enhancement Project

The government of Tajikistan has requested ADB assistance for the CAREC Corridors 3 and 5 enhancement project, which is important for national road network connectivity, particularly in the Khatlon province, and for the socio-economic development of the country.

Purchasing of Two Airplanes for Uzbekistan Airways Project

The project aims at purchasing two airplanes in order to enhance economic efficiency, competitiveness, flight safety as well as opportunity o further increase the level of passenger carrying capacity of Uzbekistan Airways.

Strengthening Tajikistan’s Trade and Investment Regime

The technical assistance will support the Tajikistan government in the conduct of three key activities: (i) an international trade and investment conference to show that Tajikistan is Open for Business; (ii) policy research and analysis on organizational reform of the Standards Agency (Tajikstandart); and (iii) capacity building on policy and regulatory reforms to effect organizational change and tackle technical barriers to trade.

Energy Efficiency Project

The project consists of two components: investment and technical assistance. The first part will finance eligible subprojects to support a reduction in energy use of public buildings such as schools, kindergartens, clinics/hospitals, and street lighting. The second part concerns technical assistance to help ensure effective project implementation.

Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS and Other Communicable Diseases in CAREC Countries

The technical assistance aimed to contribute to regional health security by strengthening implementation of the International Health Regulations in Central Asia and support the implementation of the European HIV/AIDS Action Plan.

Modernization of Customs Services in Azerbaijan

The project supports the modernization of the customs service in Azerbaijan through infrastructure development, automation of the processes, and personnel training.

CAREC Regional Improvement of Border Services Project

The project will help upgrade facilities at two key border crossing points, one in Tajikistan and one in the Kyrgyz Republic, and introduce a single-window system for tracking cargo to cut processing time and costs.

Enhancing Regional Power Trade Study

The World Bank commissioned a study to estimate unrealized benefits from regional power trade for the four Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan during the period from 2010–2014.

Naryn Area-Based Development Programme

The goal of the program is to reduce poverty in Naryn province through the creation of conditions for balanced and sustainable socioeconomic development that will benefit around 30,000 people from vulnerable groups.

Performance-Based Road Maintenance Contract

Energy Sector Development Investment Program, Tranche 4

The project will install transmission lines to expand the network in North–West Afghanistan and to connect to the Turkmenistan system. It will also extend the distribution network southeast of Kabul, the capital.

CAREC: Supporting Capacity Development Needs of CAREC 2020

The technical assistance will help meet sector capacity development needs of member countries in implementing CAREC 2020, which will support planning and implementation of their national development plans.

CAREC Corridor 2 (Mangystau Oblast Section) Investment Program, Tranche 2

The second project of the investment program will reconstruct an 86.7-kilometer (km) road section between the cities of Shetpe and Zhetybay, and an 83-km section between Zhetybay and the provincial capital, Aktau.

Second CAREC Corridor 2 Road Investment Program, Tranche 2

The second tranche of the investment program will upgrade a 75-kilometer (km), two-lane section of a highway running from Pungan to Namangan to four lanes. It will also provide additional financing to help complete work on 58 km of road approved under Tranche 1 of the program.
