Floating Solar Energy Development

Aid for Trade

Through the Aid for Trade project, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works with governments in Central Asia to develop better policies that in turn help the private sector create jobs, so that people can better support themselves. The project covers three countries in Central Asia: the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Preparing the CAREC 2, 3, and 6 (Turkmenabat–Mary–Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi) Railway Modernization Projects

The Government of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Railway Transport have requested assistance from the Asian Development Bank for a program to modernize railways in Turkmenistan. The transaction technical assistance facility will provide project preparation support and capacity building to these ensuing projects.

Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures to Facilitate Trade

The technical assistance will support the CAREC Common Agenda for the Modernization of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures for Trade by (i) creating national bodies in each country and a regional body to lead the modernization process; (ii) developing regulations, procedures, and requirements that are aligned with international standards; and (iii) improving the capability of border agencies to implement these measures at selected common borders.

Railway Efficiency Improvement Project

The project aims to improve the efficiency of Uzbekistan's railway operations, combining investments where it faces operational bottlenecks (e.g. electric locomotives), and strategic support to improve business practices.

Uch Kurgan Hydropower Plant Modernization

The project preparatory technical assistance (PPTA) will develop the proposed Uch Kurgan Hydropower Plant Modernization Project and will increase sustainable hydropower generation in Kyrgyz Republic by (i) modernizing Uch Kurgan hydropower plant (HPP), (ii) developing a new small HPP on the Uch Kurgan irrigation canal, and (iii) improving country capacity to develop and operate small HPPs.

Promoting Low-Carbon Development in CAREC Program Cities

This regional capacity development technical assistance aims to support cities in CAREC program countries to strengthen their capacity to undertake climate actions to further enhance sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous economic development.

Leapfrogging of Clean Technology in CAREC Countries through Market Transformation

The proposed TA will fast-track technology adoption through a new technology roadmap, credible demonstration of new technology pilots through study tours, capacity development workshops and trainings.

Strengthening International Food Safety Standards in Agricultural Value Chains in the CAREC Member Countries

This proposed regional capacity development TA will support CAREC member countries’ implementation of food safety to international standards along agricultural value-chain systems.

Access to Electricity with New Off-Grid Solar Technology in Central Asia

The technical assistance aims to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of this new technology combination in the CAREC region, and enable the off-grid community to move from basic lighting to a range of basic battery-operated appliances using larger solar panels and long-life lithium-ion batteries.
