ADB Consults Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan on Prefeasibility Studies for Trilateral Economic Corridor Development

From 8 to 16 December, ADB and the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) India and associated firms conducted five virtual country consultations with public and private sector stakeholders in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the prefeasibility studies for the establishment of an International Center for Industrial Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and a Trade and Logistics Center in Sugd Oblast of Tajikistan under the Shymkent-Tashkent-Khujand Economic Corridor (STKEC) initiative. Senior officials from the three countries, including Kazakhstan Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Mr. Kairat Torebayev, Tajikistan Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mr. Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda, and Uzbekistan Head of Department for Development of Transport Corridor of Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and CAREC Transport Sector Focal Point Mr. Abdulla Khashimov, delivered welcome remarks. Country Directors for KARM and TJRM, Nariman Mannapbekov and Shanny Campbell, and URM Deputy Country Director Enrico Pinali delivered opening remarks. Participants discussed the proposed scope, methodologies, and timelines for the two studies and identified key issues and opportunities in developing the STKEC.
