10th CAREC Transport Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting
Transport sector representatives from 10 CAREC countries attended the meeting to (i) review progress in implementing the CAREC Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy and its Action Plan, (ii) discuss and endorse medium-term priority transport projects, and (iii) agree on the proposed midterm review of the Strategy and Implementation Action Plan (CAREC Corridors Review).
Delegates were also updated on the Trade Facilitation Program; CAREC cross-border transport facilitation; training plans in the transport sector; a Sustainable Transport Initiative for new opportunities within CAREC; and the CAREC 2020 strategic framework, and its implication on the sector.
A retreat was held after the meeting to discuss the next steps to be taken by the committee.
Vice Minister Asylbek Duysebayev of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan chaired the meeting. Other delegates who participated in the meeting were from the Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Islamic Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the World Bank.
