CAREC Energy Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting (March 2010)
The ESCC discussed progress on implementing the Energy Action Plan Framework over the past 6 months and the committee’s work plan for 2010-2011. The meeting focused on a set of diagnostics that are currently under preparation:
- Energy supply and demand. The diagnostic study on energy supply-demand and infrastructure constraints will support improved information sharing and coordination among CAREC countries and partners. This study will also provide key inputs to develop the power sector regional master plan for Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
- Energy and water linkages. The preliminary diagnostic on energy and water linkages, which is one of the three strategic themes in the Energy Action Plan Framework, will contribute to a detailed study and analytical model that will identify key resources and linkages, and enable basic simulations.
- Regional dispatch and regulatory development. Discussions were held about a diagnostic study on regional energy trade. The ESCC heard about market integration experiences (related to power) from other parts of the world.
