KEGOC Modernization II Loan

The project will enable the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) to ensure stability and reliability of the power system, and equal access to the wholesale electricity market for both electricity producers and consumers.

Expanding Trade by Connecting Central Asia Countries

This study focuses on three countries of Central Asia —Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan—and applies the framework used by the World Development Report 2009. The study recommends that these three countries anchor their export diversification and growth strategy on three spatial scales—urban (leading city), area (city-hinterland), and regional (integration with regional markets).

Impact of Kazakhstan Accession to WTO: A Quantitative Assessment

In this paper, the authors use a computable general equilibrium model of the Kazakhstan economy to assess the impact of accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), which encompasses (i) improved market access, (ii) Kazakhstan tariff reduction, (iii) reduction of barriers against entry by multinational service providers, and (iv) reform of local content and value-added tax policies confronting multinational firms in the oil sector.

The project will reform and modernize the customs administration of Kazakhstan, by promoting internationally acceptable practices for processing of international trade flows, improving revenue collection, and reducing potential for corruption.

Capacity Building for Developing Member Countries on the WTO Trading System

The main objective of the technical assistance is to support developing member countries (DMCs) to fully integrate into the World trade Organization (WTO) multilateral trading system through (i) increasing their awareness of WTO agreements so that they can be fully implemented; (ii) assisting them to participate fully in the new WTO round; and (iii) assisting DMCs, including Pacific DMCs, to accede to WTO.
