CAREC Gender Climate Awards 2024 

The CAREC Gender Climate Awards 2024 aims to recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to gender equality in the context of climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation within the CAREC region. 

The Award aims to give visibility to those who have achieved professional success and are also eloquent advocates or have taken practical steps for climate change in local communities, national and regional settings. 

Eligibility

The nominees should be: 

  1. Resident nationals of a CAREC member country (Azerbaijan, People’s Republic of China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan), or organizations operating in at least one of the listed CAREC member countries;  
  1. Individuals (women or men) or organizations with demonstrated commitment and active role in promoting gender equality in the context of climate change resilience, adaptation and mitigation through professional and/or voluntary work 

* Nomination can be a self-nomination or nomination for others.  

Selection Criteria 

A jury will select winners for the Individual Category based on the following criteria: 

  1. Impact  
    • Demonstrated impact: The extent to which the nominee’s work has had a measurable impact on gender equality and climate resilience.   
    • Innovation: Use of innovative approaches or techniques in addressing gender and climate issues.   
    • Sustainability: The sustainability and long-term benefits of the nominee’s initiatives.   
  2. Leadership  
    • Leadership and advocacy: The nominee’s role in leading or advocating for gender and climate initiatives. It could also be a leader in climate change related industries who actively advocated gender equality in the workplace and intersectionality  
    • Partnerships and collaboration: Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector while considering diverse and overlapping individuals’ experiences.  
    • Multi-sectoral approach: Involvement in cross-sectoral activities that address both gender and climate issues.   
  3. Inclusivity: Ensuring the participation and benefit of marginalized groups, such as women, youth, people with disability, and indigenous communities promoting equity in climate resilience and adaptation measures. 
  4. Alignment with CAREC Goals: How well the nominee’s work aligns with the goals and priorities of the CAREC program, particularly in promoting regional cooperation and sustainable development.   

The jury will select winners for the Organization Category based on the following criteria: 

1. Measurable Impact on Gender Equality

  • Promotion of women’s leadership: Programs or initiatives that effectively promote women in leadership roles within climate-related sectors.  
  • Capacity building: Efforts to enhance the skills and capacities of women, enabling their active participation in climate action.  
  • Inclusivity: Measures taken to ensure that gender considerations are integrated into climate policies and practices, benefiting all genders equally.  
  • Innovation in climate solutions: Implementation of innovative solutions or technologies that contribute to gender-responsive climate resilience and sustainability  

  2. Collaboration and Partnerships  

  • Stakeholder engagement: Effective engagement with stakeholders, including local communities, governments, and international organizations, to advance gender and climate goals.  
  • Public-private partnerships: Successful collaborations between the public and private sectors that drive progress in gender equality and climate resilience. 

3. Sustainability and Innovation 

  • Sustainable outcomes: Demonstration of long-term sustainability of projects, ensuring continued benefits for gender equality and climate resilience.  
  • Visionary leadership: Commitment to a long-term vision for integrating gender equality into climate action plans and policies.  
  • Creative approaches: Use of creative and innovative approaches to address the challenges at the intersection of gender and climate change.  
  • Technology integration: Integration of new technologies to enhance the effectiveness of gender and climate initiatives. 

4. Community Engagement and Empowerment

  • Grassroots involvement: Initiatives that actively involve and empower local communities, especially women and marginalized groups, in climate resilience efforts.  
  • Educational outreach: Programs aimed at educating and raising awareness about the intersection of gender and climate issues, conducted in educational institutions, workplaces, communities and/or through public campaigns.  

Rewards and Benefits 

Awardees will receive the following benefits:  

  • Recognition in an award ceremony at the CAREC Women’s Business Forum in Kazakhstan in November 
  • Exclusive membership to the CAREC Women Empowerment Online Platform (WEOP) for networking and showcasing opportunities 
  • International media exposure 
  • Invitation to the CAREC Women’s Business Forum and other CAREC high-profile events, regional workshops, and training, when appropriate. 
  • Engagement in leadership coaching and mentorship programs 

Selection Timeline 

Call for nominations: 1 July to 15 August 

Shortlisting and submission of reference letters: 16 August to 8 September 

Final evaluation: 9 September – 6 October 

Notification of selected awardees: 7 October – 6 November 

Award Ceremony: November 2024 (Final date to be announced)
