CAREC Energy Sector Coordinating Committee Meeting (November 2017)

The CAREC Energy Sector Coordinating Committee (ESCC) met via videoconference to discuss project updates from development partners and propose activities for 2018.

The meeting was opened by Asian Development Bank (ADB) Central and West Asia Energy Division Director Ashok Bhargava. CAREC Unit Director Guoliang gave an introduction to the CAREC 2030 strategy.

ADB and government officials gave updates on the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan–Tajikistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TUTAP), Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP), and CASA 1000 projects, along with information on other activities in the region by the United States Agency for International Development and the International Renewable Energy Agency.

ADB officials also presented ongoing activities under three energy-related technical assistance projects in the region. Government officials also presented proposals for pilot projects under the regional technical assistance.

The ESCC will partner with the CAREC Institute and the Argonne National Lab for workshops and training in 2018. A calendar of activities will be proposed and approved before the end of the year.
