CAREC Session at ADB Annual General Meeting 2023

Regional Cooperation in Central and West Asia – the Role for the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program

Senior government representatives and experts discussed the impacts of major external shocks in Central and West Asia at the CAREC high-level session 4 May in Incheon. These external factors included the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic situation in Afghanistan, climate change-related disasters, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Panelists discussed the need to identify a new role for the CAREC program to respond effectively to short- to long-term challenges. VP Shixin delivered the opening remarks, and CWRD DG Eugene Zhukov presented the economic and social impacts of the recent external shocks on Central and West Asia.
