21st CAREC Customs Cooperation Committee (CCC) Meeting

The 21st Meeting of CAREC Customs Cooperation Committee (CCC) featured a keynote address by Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya of the World Customs Organization on “ Scaling Up Customs Digital Transformation”, its theme for 2022. Members shared their digitalization-related initiatives that were particularly facilitated by CCC, and reviewed the implementation of the CCC work program and plans for the next period. Members then issued a Joint Statement to reaffirm their commitment to customs modernization and trade facilitation through regional cooperation. Director General Wenyi Zhou of the General Administration of Customs of People’s Republic of China, chaired the meeting. Safdar Parvez, Advisor of East Asia Department of Asian Development Bank (ADB) stressed how CCC has spearheaded the trade facilitation agenda in the region and promoted customs modernization, and the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common challenges and fostering sustainable trade. ADB Director of Public Management, Financial Sector, and Regional Cooperation Division, Emma Fan, noted the significant progress made by CCC and the need to deepen the scope of cooperation, assuring continuous ADB support in addressing existing and emerging challenges in order to reinvigorate trade and ensure supply chain continuity.
