Subregional Workshop for CAREC 2020 (Uzbekistan)

The CAREC countries have participated in a series of subregional workshops in Tashkent, Astana, and Urumqi to

• discuss the strategic framework for the next 10 years of the CAREC Program (CAREC 2020) and its accompanying medium-term list of priority projects,
• prepare activities for the program’s upcoming 10th anniversary this year,
• brainstorm on a possible pilot study on CAREC “Corridor Cities”, and
• confirm the agenda of the mid-year CAREC Senior Officials’ Meeting to be held in Baku on 7-8 June 2011.

The Tashkent workshop was attended by senior officials from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan; the Astana workshop had delegates from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan; and delegates from Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia, and Pakistan gathered in Urumqi.
