First Road Working Group Meeting on Regional Cooperation in Transport Projects in Central Asia Regions
Objectives
The objectives of the meeting covered the existing condition of the road, the proposed options for road improvement, and identification of trade and traffic potential. In particular, the Road Working Group meeting focused on
- the identification of the primary constraints to increased use of the road between the Fergana Valley, Irkeshtam, and Kashgar;
- measures that could be undertaken to ease these constraints and maximize traffic flows, and
- financing options for the project to improve the road and for subsequent maintenance.
Target Participants
The target participants were ADB representatives, road sector specialists as well as members of transport Sector Coordinating Committee (SCC) under ADB’s regional economic cooperation program from Kyrgyz Republic, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Those invited were:
