Kazakhstan Moinak Electricity Transmission Project

Summary

The project has three components: A. Construction of transmission lines

  • Construction of about 97-kilometer (km), 220-kilovolt (kV) single-circuit overhead transmission line from Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant to Shelek substation; and
  • construction of about 225 km, 220 kV single-circuit overhead transmission line from Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant to Robot substation.
B. Modernization of substations
  • Construction of 220/110 kV outdoor switchyard at Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant,
  • modernization of 220 kV Robot substation, and
  • modernization of 220 kV Shelek substation.
C. Consulting and technical services
  • Consulting services for procurement and project management; and
  • technical services for selection of the transmission routes, conduct of engineering surveys, and engineering supervision of the turnkey contracts during construction.

Expected Outcome

The project will increase and improve the electricity supply to business enterprises and households in southern Kazakhstan in an economically and environmentally sustainable manner.

Expected Outputs

  • Overhead transmission lines constructed from Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant to Shelek and Robot substations
  • Outdoor switchyard at Moinak Hydroelectric Power Plant, and Robot and Shelek substations modernized
  • Consulting and technical services rendered
