Development of Mini Hydropower Plants in Badakhshan and Bamyan Provinces (Component of MFF Energy Sector Development Investment Program, Project 1)

Summary

The subproject of the Energy Sector Development Investment Program's Project 1 involves

• selection and design of mini hydropower plants, which include a desk study, site visits, preliminary design and site selection, and detailed design and procurement;
• implementation, which is to construct up to four mini hydropower plants, and project management; and
• capacity building and support community-based organizations.

Expected Outcome

The subproject will improve the quality of rural life in Badakhshan and Bamyan provinces by providing electricity services from mini hydropower plants with generating capacity below 1,000 kilowatts.

Expected Outputs

• Sites selected and mini hydropower plants designed.
• Mini hydropower plants constructed and project successfully managed.
• Capacity building developed and community-based organizations supported.
