CAREC: Power Sector Regional Master Plan

Summary

The technical assistance (TA) intends to identify power sector deficiencies on the regional level and resolve these through focusing on promotion of inter- and intra–regional electricity trade, increasing energy security and energy efficiency, and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), by optimizing integrated transmission and generation expansion. The TA will also prepare the technical study of Afghanistan prospective membership and connection to Central Asia Power System (CAPS).

Expected Outcome

A series of regional investment power projects identified

Expected Outputs

• A Regional Power Sector Master Plan for Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan
• A technical study on connecting Afghanistan to CAPS
