Capacity Building for Regional Cooperation under the CAREC Program

Summary

The 4th CAREC Ministerial Conference  in November 2005 emphasized that capacity building should focus on strengthening the CAREC Program's national focal points (NFPs), conducting training workshops and study tours on international best practices for regional cooperation, and developing information exchange and research networks. This regional technical assistance (RETA) was developed to complement the earlier RETA 6158 in these areas.

Expected Outcome

The expected outcome was more effective NFPs be achieved by

  • further development of skills of NFPs and other senior officials involved in the CAREC Program in policy planning and strategic management for regional cooperation;
  • learning from the experience of other regional cooperation programs; introduction of processes to coordinate regional initiatives at the country level; and
  • support for research networks in the CAREC region.
