Almaty–Bishkek Economic Corridor Regional Improvement of Border Services Project Readiness

Summary

The regional knowledge and support technical assistance (TA) will continue supporting the implementation of a pilot cross-border economic corridor around Almaty and Bishkek under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program. The governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic are implementing an economic corridor between Almaty, Bishkek, and the surrounding regions since 2014. The proposed TA will support the work of the ABEC Subcommittee in designing new regional projects, develop a new mechanism for selecting projects, and develop a framework for a regional development fund.  

Expected Outcome

ABEC as pilot economic corridor under the CAREC program successfully implemented.  

Expected Outputs

Conceptualization, readiness, and policy reform enabling the preparation of investment projects with regional relevance in the ABEC region strengthened. Institutional capacity and outreach of ABEC Subcommittee improved.
