CAREC Conference on Digital Trade and Innovations

Samad Garalov, Director of Head Department on Customs Control and Trade Facilitation, State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan chaired the third event of the CAREC Trade Week. The conference launched the joint Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and CAREC Institute report on Digital and Sustainable Trade Facilitation Report: CAREC 2021. CAREC Secretariat also shared the CAREC Digital Strategy 2030 with a focus on promoting digital trade. Country delegates shared progress in their respective digital strategies and the recent adoption of technology to promote trade. ADB East Asia Department Director for Public Management, Financial Sector, and Regional Cooperation Division, Emma Fan and ESCAP’s Chief of Trade Policy and Facilitation Section Yann Duval co-delivered the opening remarks. They noted the good progress of CAREC members in implementing mandatory provisions of the World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement and the improvement of CAREC’s trade facilitation based on the United Nations’ Trade Facilitation survey.
