CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project, Phase 4

Summary

The proposed transaction technical assistance (TRTA) will assess the condition of the structures likely to be affected by construction of the Bishkek–Kara–Balta section of the project road under the CAREC Corridor 3 (Bishkek–Osh Road) Improvement Project.

Expected Outcome

The TRTA will finance a study to undertake (i) an assessment of existing structures adjacent to the project road that likely to be affected by this reversion to the vibrating equipment approach, and (ii) costing of measures to mitigate the potential resulting damage to structures and social safeguards impacts.

Expected Outputs

The project has been characterized by some construction-induced damage to residential and other structures, potentially up to 4,000 such structures, that are adjacent to the road's right of way, and will create a baseline database to inform discussions about future potential impacts and complaints. The output of the TRTA will provide the Ministry of Transport and Roads with reliable data that it could take into account when deciding either to retain the prohibition on using vibrating equipment or to revert to the original construction approach using such equipment.
