Ceremony Marks Construction of Kunduz–Taluqan Power Transmission Line

A groundbreaking ceremony in Takhar province marked the start of construction of the $27.8-million power transmission line linking the northern Afghanistan cities of Kunduz and Taluqan. The transmission line is being funded by Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) $164-million grant, the first tranche of a multitranche finance facility worth $570 million under the Energy Sector Development Investment Program.

Kazakhstan Road Section of the South–West Transport Corridor Receives EBRD Loan

ADB Gives $100 Million Grant to Upgrade CAREC Road in Tajikistan

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing a $100 million grant to improve a 113-kilometer (km) road section between Ayni–Panjakent and the Uzbekistan border in northern Tajikistan. The road is part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor 6 that spans about 10,000 km linking Europe and the Russian Federation to the Middle East and South Asia.

The Kyrgyz Republic’s Power Sector Rehabilitation Project Receives $55 Million in ADB Funding

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $40 million grant and a $15 million loan to finance the Kyrgyz Republic’s $62 million Power Sector Rehabilitation Project. The government and electric power plants will provide $7 million. The Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program will coordinate the project funding.

From South–West to East–West Roads, Kazakhstan’s CAREC Corridor 1 Portion Gets Another Upgrade

Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Corridor 1b, also called the Western Europe–Western [People's Republic of] China Corridor, will be further improved by the East–West Roads Project. The World Bank approved a $1,068 million loan in May 2012 for this project in Kazakhstan, aiming to increase transport efficiency along the road corridor within Almaty Oblast, and modernize highway management on sections of the corridor.

Tajikistan Road Heading to Turkey and Europe Gets $35 Million EBRD Loan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a sovereign loan of $35 million for the Dushanbe–Uzbekistan Border Road Improvement Project. The EBRD loan will finance the urban section of the M41 highway within Tajikistan—4.6 kilometers (km) of the highway within the capital city of Dushanbe, from the Avicenna Monument to the West Gate.
