ADB and CAREC

ADB serves as the CAREC Secretariat and takes the lead in organizing institutional events, such as ministerial conferences, senior officials’ meetings, and sector and sector coordinating committees’ meetings as well as liaising with partner governments and institutions.

ADB is involved in all priority sectors of CAREC—transport, trade facilitation, trade policy, and energy. It has also produced CAREC-related studies.

All 11 CAREC countries are ADB’s developing member countries—Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People’s Republic of China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

CAREC information is available on the ADB website.

ADB placed its regular assistance to Afghanistan on hold effective 15 August 2021, but since 2022 has supported the Afghan people through a special arrangement with the United Nations to address basic human needs, including critical food support, and health and education services.
