In December 2017, the Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of Afghanistan agreed to jointly develop a 500-kilovolt (kV) power interconnection from the Surkhan substation in Uzbekistan to the Khwaja-Alwan substation in Afghanistan.

Rural Electrification Project

The Tajikistan Rural Electrification Project will finance the construction of electricity generation and distribution infrastructure to provide off-grid solutions or connect to the central grid vulnerable communities in Tajikistan’s eastern Gorno–Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) and southern Khatlon region.

Uch-Kurgan Hydropower Plant Modernization Project

The proposed project will replace ageing electrical and mechanical equipment for power generation and transmission at the Uch-Kurgan hydropower plant (HPP) in the Naryn River cascade, and undertake silt and sedimentation removal which hinders the proper operation of hydromechanical equipment of the HPP.

Reconnection to the Central Asian Power System Project

The proposed project will (i) install modern relays, circuit breakers, instrumental transformers, and ancillary equipment and systems at eight 220kV and two 500-kilovolt (kV) interconnection points; (ii) establish two new 500-kV interconnections; and, (iii) provide capacity building to Barki Tojik staff in reliability of parallel operations.

National Power Grid Strengthening Project

The project will (i) build about 1,100 kilometers (km) of new 110-kilovolt (kV), 220 kV, and 500 kV transmission lines; (ii) construct four new substations; and (iii) expand three existing substations.

Energy Efficiency Facility for Industrial Enterprises, Phase 3

Phase 3 of the project will continue to finance energy-saving investments in both large industrial enterprises and industrial SMEs, and support energy efficiency capacity development through targeted technical assistance.

District Heating Energy Efficiency Project

The project development objective is to improve the efficiency and quality of heating and hot water services in selected cities within the territory of Uzbekistan.

The project will construct two units of 450 MW energy efficient combined cycle gas turbines at the Talimarjan Thermal Power Plant located in Kashkadarya region, contributing to energy saving, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and reliable power supply in Uzbekistan.
