CWRD countries discuss alignment of CAREC Corridor 2 development with national priorities
On 4 April 2025, representatives of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, development partners—EU and EBRD, and private sector as key stakeholders of CAREC Corridor 2 discussed challenges, opportunities, and alignment of national priorities with the corridor development in Baku, Azerbaijan. Development of multimodal transport logistics centers, modernizing border-crossing points with digital solutions, while upgrading port, railway, and road infrastructure will foster competitiveness and improve capacity of CAREC Corridor 2 to meet growing cargo volume. CWRC and SG-TRA facilitated the discussion by highlighting the need for a coordinated and corridor-wide approach and presenting ongoing studies on the CAREC Corridor 2 Development Strategy and the Midterm Review of the CAREC Transport Strategy 2030.
CWRD DG Eugenue Zhukov, CWRC Regional Head Lyaziza Sabyrova, and government officials of Azerbaijan shared their perspectives to program and scale up operations along CAREC Corridor 2. The highlighted national priorities and needs for investments will be incorporated in the CAREC Corridor 2 Development Strategy and the Midterm Review of the CAREC Transport Strategy 2030.
