CAREC underscores cross–border PPP’s role in regional connectivity and sustainable development
ADB jointly organized with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center of the Kyrgyz Republic a side event on Cross-border PPP Projects and Success Stories held on 17 June at the sideline of the CAREC Senior Officials Meeting in Issyk-Kul, the Kyrgyz Republic. ADB provides technical assistance, advisory support, and funding for regional PPP project preparation such as the Almaty–Issyk-Kul Alternative Road Project and the Yavan Hydropower Plant (Tajikistan – Uzbekistan). The session discussed how cross-border PPPs can enhance regional connectivity and address financing gaps and contribute to national and regional development objectives. Key experts including from Türkiye PPP Excellence Center, UNECE, EDB, Sustainable Infrastructure Foundation, IFC, Republic of Korea, and PPP Expertise Eurasia underscored the importance of intergovernmental agreement, harmonized legal frameworks, joint planning, upstream project development, institutional coordination, and technical and innovative support to technical and commercial feasibility for effective and inclusive PPP projects in the CAREC region. ADB’s Regional Head for Regional Cooperation and Integration of Central and West Asia Department Ms. Lyaziza Sabyrova reiterated ADB and CAREC’s commitment to strengthen engagement with the private sector, including support for the development of innovative cross-border PPP projects.
