Reinvigorating Regional Cooperation in Central Asia and South Caucasus and the Role of Kazakhstan in this Cooperation

On 30 January 2023, consultation on “Reinvigorating regional cooperation in Central Asia and South Caucasus and the role of Kazakhstan in this cooperation” were held in Almaty, with representatives of Kazakhstan’s government and expert community. Ms. Lyaziza Sabyrova, Director, CWRC and Mr. Kairat Torebayev, Vice-Minister of Trade and Integration chaired the meeting. Participants discussed the recent shocks in the region, their impact on the economy of Kazakhstan, and the possible role of regional economic cooperation as a response to the emerging challenges. They suggested the Government and other stakeholders in the region of Central and West Asia to focus on promoting regional trade and easing cross-border trade arrangements, production cooperation, and facilitating mutual transit opportunities. In addition to physical participation, 12 representatives from the expert community participated virtually.
