The roundtable seminar (i) took stock of and learned from transport facilitation arrangements in the CAREC region, (ii) learned from international good practices in regional and subregional transport facilitation arrangements, and (iii) recommended feasible and practical ways to advance corridor-based transport facilitation.

The seminar focused on

  • sharing CAREC countries’ experiences in transport facilitation agreements,
  • explaining key impediments to cross-border transport in the CAREC region based on the findings of the Corridor Performance Measurement and Monitoring,
  • identifying key elements and features of a transport facilitation agreement,
  • relating experiences of transport facilitation arrangements in the Greater Mekong Subregion and Latin America, and
  • discussing ways to promote transport facilitation in the CAREC region.

Transport and customs officials responsible for transport facilitation, and representatives from the offices of the national focal points in nine CAREC countries attended. The seminar was organized by the Asian Development Bank, ADB Institute, and the CAREC Secretariat.
