Power Transmission Enhancement Project
Country:Azerbaijan
Sector:Energy
Summary:The project consists of
  • construction of about 280-kilometer (km), 220-kilovolt (kV) double-circuit transmission line from Mingechevir hydropower plant to Absheron substation;
  • construction of a new 220/110 kV substation at Agdash and installation of two units of transformers (each with a capacity of 125 megavolt-amperes) and the associate 110 kV transmission lines in the vicinity of the substation;
  • expansion of Absheron substation (500/330/220 kV) by installing one unit of transformer with capacity of 400 megavolt-amperes and breakers;
  • support for project management by assisting Azerenergy in procurement and bidding for the tendering of design, supply, and installation contracts; implementation supervision; and other capacity building support; and
  • institutional strengthening by providing training to Azerenergy staff on transmission and substation operation and maintenance, environmental management, and social safeguard implementation.
Expected Outcome:The project will improve the power transmission system to provide reliable and adequate electricity for sustained economic growth in Azerbaijan.
