Summary:The tranche, fourth of the multitrance financing facility of the Energy Sector Development Investment Program, involves the design, supply, installation, and commission of the following:

A. Transmission Lines
  • A new 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission line of approximately 100 kilometers (km), from the international border between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan to Andkhoy, and from Andkhoy to Sheberghan
  • A new 220 kV transmission line of approximately 142 km from Sheberghan to Mazar-e-Sharif
B. Substations
  • A new 220 kV substation at Andkhoy and at Sheberghan
  • An expansion of the existing 220kV substation at Mazar-e-Sharif
C. Distribution Networks
  • Extension to existing 220 kV substations at Pul-e-Alam and Gardez
  • New distribution networks comprising 20 kV and low voltage distribution lines and power connections at Pul-e-Alam to achieve approximately 10,000 new household connections
  • New distribution networks comprising 20 kV and low voltage distribution lines and power connections at Gardez to achieve approximately 10,000 new household connections
The project also provides project management and implementation support for Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
Expected Outcome:The project will contribute to an improved power supply in northern and eastern Afghanistan, Kabul, and areas south of Kabul, as well as greater institutional capacity within DABS.
Expected Outputs:
  • New transmission lines, substations, and distribution networks designed, supplied, installed and commissioned; and
  • improved institutional capacity within Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS).
