Summary:

Project 3 will construct/rehabilitate about 118-kilometer (km) road sections in total.

ADB will finance

  • construction of a new 80-km Otar-Blagoveshchenka road section (Km 162-260); and
  • rehabilitation of 13-km existing asphalt concrete road, and construction of a new 5-km asphalt concrete bypass approach road to the Kyrgyz border.

JICA will jointly cofinance the construction of 20-km Kulan bypass road section (km 383-404).

Expected Outcome:The project will provide an efficient transport network in Otar-Blagoveshchenka and Korday-Kyrgyzstan border road sections, and Kulan bypass.
Expected Outputs:
  • Under the ADB-funded sections, a new 80 km two-lane road in Zhambyl oblast built and 13 km of approach road to the Kyrgyz Republic’s border, with additional 5 km, rehabilitated;
  • under the JICA-funded sections, upgraded 5.2 km Kulan bypass road and new 14.8 km four-lane bypass road connected to Kulan bypass road constructed; and
  • improved construction supervision and project management.
