Power Transmission and Distribution Project

Summary:The loan-financed portion of the projects covers three areas of Afghanistan:
A. Northern area
  • Construction of a 20-kilometer (km), single-circuit, 100-kilovolt (kV) transmission line from Shekanbandar to Imam Sahib.

B. Central and Eastern areas
  • Construction of a 75 km, single-circuit, 100 kV transmission line from Naghlu east to Jalalabad; and
  • construction of a 17 km, double-circuit, 110 kV line from Mehtarlam to Jalalabad.

C. Southern area
  • Construction of a 12 km, double-circuit, 110 kV transmission line from Breshnakt to Kabul South;
  • construction of a 43 km, one circuit of a double circuit, 220 kV transmission line from Kabul South to Puli-Alam; and
  • construction of a 51 km, 100 kV line from Puli-Alam to Gardez.

 

The grant-financed portion of the project covers three areas of Afghanistan:

A. Northern area

  • Construction of substations at Imam Sahib, Sarepul, and Talugan, and a switching station at Shekanbandar;
  • construction of distribution networks in Khan Abad, Imam Sahib, and Talugan, benefiting 51,000 households; and
  • provision of 9,000 electrification kits.

 

B. Central and Eastern areas

  • Rehabilitation of substations at Jalalabad, Mehtarlam, Qarghayi, and Surobi;
  • rehabilitation of distribution networks in Jalalabad and Mehtarlam, targeting 23,000 households; and
  • provision of 6,300 electrification kits.

 

C. Southern area

  • Construction of substations at Puli-Alam and Gardez;
  • rehabilitation of city distribution networks in Puli-Alam, Muhammad Agha, and Gardez, benefiting 16,500 households; and
  • provision of 3,000 electrification kits.
Expected Outcome:The project will improve power supply in the northern, southern, and eastern areas of Afghanistan by rehabilitating and extending power transmission and distribution systems.
Expected Outputs:
  • New 20 km transmission line constructed in the northern area;
  • new 75 km and 17 km transmission lines constructed in the central and eastern areas; and
  • new 12 km, 43 km, and 51 km transmission lines constructed in the southern area.
