Master Plan for Road Network Improvement Project

Summary:The technical assistance (i) prepares a Road Master Plan and (ii) conducts a feasibility study for high-priority road projects. The Road Master Plan maps out a road network development strategy and program over the next 5-10 year period. While, among the highest priority roads are the east-west corridor to connect Herat to Kabul and two north-south corridors passing through the central mountain region.
Expected Outcome:The efficient and effective rehabilitation of the road network will support poverty reduction, economic growth, national integration, and the peace process in the country.
Expected Outputs:The TA will have two components:
  • the master plan component, which will prioritize road sections based on objective criteria and formulate implementation strategies for a financing mechanism for sustainable O&M; and
  • the feasibility study component, which will prepare a road project from the engineering, economic, social, and environmental points of view.
